On 9th March 2022 a public webinar was organized to present highlights from the MAGNIFICENT project entitled High value products from marine microalgae: learnings and opportunities from the Magnificent BBI-JU / H2020 project (2017-2021).

The webinar addressed the achieved progress in industrial microalgae cultivation and biorefinery for the successful development of new products from 3 industrial algae strains with applications in food, aquafeed and cosmetics. Furthermore, the findings of the performed Techno Economic Assessment, a Life Cycle Assessment and the business case development were presented. At the start of the webinar an enlightening lecture was given by Joao Navalho, CEO of microalgae production company Necton (PT) entitled The Microalgae Challenge in the EU. A personal view from the industry. The lecture addressed the operation of the company, and the challenges and opportunities for the algae sector in Europe, from the perspective of an established algae production company.

The webinar put in perspective the impact of the achievements from the MAGNIFICENT project on the development of the algae field.
