Webinar

On 9th March 2022 a public webinar was organized to present highlights from the MAGNIFICENT project entitled High value products from marine microalgae: learnings and opportunities from the Magnificent BBI-JU / H2020 project (2017-2021).

Microalgae production

Secil’s microalgae production unit, Algafarm, produces microalgae on an industrial scale. Microalgae are produced through photobiorreactors and fermentation systems, and are supplied by the company Allmicroalgae.

Green gold in our sea water

Scientists and businesses see many environmental and economic benefits in growing microscopic algae for use in food, cosmetics and plastics.

Harvest in sea water

Can we grow food from sea water and CO2?
Researchers are studying these microscopic plants that live in salty water
Marine microalgae contain proteins, oils, antioxidants and other valuable components.

AlgaePARC - Wageningen UR

Four years after the first calculations, the experimental cultivation of algae appears to meet expectations. Production costs have now more than halved, while the yield of some harvesting components has already exceeded costs.

AlgaePARC’s 2015 results

View AlgaePARC’s results over the period 2010-2015. Which specific results, e.g. on biorefinery of microalgae, did they achieve? How cost-effective are microalgae for different types of products – such as food and feed, chemicals, materials and fuels?
